Once again charities and non-profit organisations throughout the region are being invited to apply for support through the 2008 Bath Building Society Charity Awards.
The annual awards are now in their third year, and have helped dozens of charities since their inception in 2006. Charities and organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to £1,000 which will be handed out in the Autumn in a special ceremony at the Mayor’s Parlour.
2007 saw a record number of applications for support, and in total 10 charitable causes in the Bath and North East Somerset area received donations as well as Bath Building Society’s popular hot air balloon tickets.
In 2007 approaching 4 per cent of the Society’s 2006 profits was invested in supporting local non-profit organisations - one of the largest levels of contribution relative to size of business in the West of England and well above the target figure of 1% viewed by Business in the Community as "best practice".
In the past the Awards, supported by local media partners Bath FM and the Bath Chronicle, have been benefited organisations including Bath’s Playbus, The Stroke Association, Open Christmas, Hop Skip & Jump, Focus Counselling, Out of the Blue, Bath & District Samaritans and many many more.
Support ranges from £100 to £1,000 across a range of initiatives and Bath Building Society welcome the opportunity to talk to all organisations about their projects. As well as monetary donations, the Society also allocates a number of tickets for rides in its hot air balloon, which are used by charities to raise further funds. Last year a pair of tickets donated through the awards to the City of Bath Male Choir raised an impressive £1,200 for the charity.

He commented, “It is always a pleasure to offer support to groups in the community that offer their services to those who need them most. Bath Building Society are proud to have a strong links with the community in which we operate, and this year’s awards will again help a range of charities helping people in many different ways.”
“The aim of the Charity Awards is to offer small but meaningful contributions to charities and community groups operating in the Bath and North East Somerset area. I’m always amazed by how many lives this scheme touches and the variety of causes we are able to help.”
Alongside its charity awards, Bath Building Society have a calendar of activity well underway for 2008 including the recent Bath Showcase, and Julian House’s Brain of Bath event scheduled for July.
