Bath Building Society Leads The Way At Building Society Industry Conference

The doors to a new flagship branch of Bath Building Society officially opened to the public in the commercial heart of the city on Monday 5th November.

Conveniently located on Bath’s Wood Street, between Queen Square (off the corner of the Francis Hotel) and Milsom Street, the new branch offers easy access for customers and other professionals.

This is the first time in its 100 year history that the Society has had a branch in the commercial heart of the city, and the investment not only reaffirms the Society’s commitment to maintaining branch-based services for its members in Bath, but also heralds the launch of a brand new IFA service.

Wood Street offers all of the services currently available at other branches of Bath Building Society, which includes a wide range of accounts for most types of savers.
New services will be available to customers from December as the Society will be launching its subsidiary company offering independent financial advice. A dedicated financial advisor will be available to work out plans that are tailored to each individual customer.
Bath Building Society leads the way

The advice will be totally independent, with no ties to Bath Building Society or any financial institution. More details will be released by the Society over the coming weeks.

Dick Jenkins, Chief Executive of Bath Building Society commented, "I’m delighted to announce that our new branch opened at 3 Wood Street, just off Queen Square, on Monday 5th November. The fact that the opening date was the same as the night that we sponsored the Round table fireworks at the Rec is just a coincidence, but opening this branch is a cause for celebration. It is a milestone in the history of the Society, and we are looking forward to welcoming customers new and old to the branch."

"In the survey we recently ran, our customers told us that they would like to have a branch towards the top end of the city, so the opening of the Wood Street branch is a direct response to the stated wishes of our customers. Southgate has, at least for the time being, become a less attractive part of the town to visit as the redevelopment has progressed and we are confident that our customers in the main will prefer this location."

"We have been planning this move for some considerable period of time - in fact years - but it does take a while to secure the right location and to fit out the branch to our requirements. We are pleased to have worked with Interaction, a Bath-based office refurbishment specialist. It’s great to keep it local, but even better to do it with a company as professional and as focused as Interaction."

"I’m looking forward to seeing our customers’ reaction when they visit the new branch for the first time. I think they will notice a much more contemporary style in the fit and the decor but that personal touch which most larger banks and building societies seem to have lost these days will still be very much in evidence."

The opening of the new branch follows on from a busy period for the Society during the past 18 months, including the successful relocation of their head offices to Queen Square in Bath, significant investment in its computing systems and building on a great deal of positive feedback from their customer survey undertaken earlier in the year.

The new services and branch are part of the continued story of Bath Building Society, which has enjoyed considerable success in recent years. Formed over 100 years ago, the Society’s reputation has grown from its origins in Bath across the South West, as it continues to raise its profile in both the local area and in the national arena as a niche mortgage lender. Bath Building Society has attracted both local and national media attention over its innovative products such as Buy-for-Uni mortgages which received national attention and industry awards.

To celebrate the launch of the new Wood Street branch, Bath Building Society is holding a competition for all new customers. Anyone who opens an account at the Wood Street branch before Wednesday 5th December 2007 will be automatically entered into a free prize-draw, and could win a luxury Christmas hamper. All you need to do is visit the new branch on Wood Street before 12 mid day on 5th December 2007, open your account, and you could be receiving a hamper of tasty treats just in time for Christmas. The winner will chosen at random from all of the correct entries and will be notified via telephone within a week of the closing date. The competition is not open to Bath Building Society staff. Terms and conditions apply.
