It is hoped that over the coming weeks, many Bath-based charities and community groups will come forward and apply for support before the 31st July deadline. Having successfully applied for an award last year, Garraway Youth and Community Centre in Larkhall has made full use of the contribution from Bath Building Society. A cheque for £200, and tow tickets for a ride in the Society's hot air balloon, were handed over to the centre in the autumn. The allocation has paid for new heaters, and the reconditioning of old ones. Secretary Peter Thatcher said, "The award from Bath Building Society has paid for the heaters, which has made the Garraway Youth and Community Centre more comfortable and welcoming during the cold spells, and it has made it a more welcoming place to use and visit. On behalf of the club I would like to extend our thanks to Bath Building Society for their kind donation." The Friends of Hope House Surgery also received a cheque for £200 from the awards which was used to cover the costs of a day trip to Westonbirt Arboretum for patients, family and friends. Julie Biggs, Chairperson of the Friends said, "We took patients who were lonely, vulnerable and had different disabilities, on a trip to Westonbirt which was a huge success. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip. It helped improve their quality of life, gave them something to look forward to and got them out of their four walls. We would like to say a huge thank you to Bath Building Society for their help in making this trip a success." Dick Jenkins, Chief Executive of Bath Building Society, said, "Since we started the Awards scheme it has always been our intention to make a range of small contributions to local groups that will make a big difference. By allocating some funding to the Garraway Youth and Community Centre, I hope we have helped them to continue to provide a valuable service to members of the local community." "The awards are there for the benefit of community groups, so we're hoping that many more will come forward over the coming weeks and apply."
