Applicants roll in for Bath Building Society's Charity Awards

Following the recent launch of the Bath Building Society Charity Awards 2008, applications have already begun rolling in, and there is still time for charities and community groups to submit their applications before the deadline.

The annual awards, which offer meaningful contributions to community groups and charities in and around Bath, are now in their third year. Since their inception in 2005, the awards have helped dozens of organisations across the city, which in turn have helped hundreds of local people in a variety of different ways.

To decide which organisations will benefit from the Society’s grants, a panel including representatives from Bath FM, the Bath Chronicle, the Quartet Community Foundation and Eventy – Marketing & PR, and the Mayor of Bath work with the Society to consider each application. Grants of up to £1,000 are then allocated to successful applicants.

Flights in Bath Building Society’s hot air balloon are also allocated for organisations to use as a way of raising further funds. The tickets are often auctioned off, with a pair selling earlier this year for an impressive £1,200 in an auction raising funds for the City of Bath Male Choir.

Last year a diverse range of groups including Supporting Disabled in Need, Bath Opportunity Pre-School and Bath Open Christmas all received support from the scheme.

Mayor of Bath, Councillor Tim Ball, commented, “As in many previous years, we are grateful to Bath Building Society for donating so much of their profits to help local and needy people.  Their continued support is greatly appreciated by the whole community.”
Chief Executive of Bath Building Society, Dick Jenkins added, “There are many worthy causes throughout the region, and through our Charity Awards I’m delighted to say that we are able to help many of them carry on their vital work within the communities.

It is often said that charity begins at home, so we’re keen to support those groups on our doorstep who work tirelessly for the benefit of their communities.”

The successful applicants will be decided by the panel of judges after the deadline on Monday 28th July 2008.
Any groups working for the benefit of their communities in and around Bath are welcome to apply for a grant, and can do so by filling out an application form (download) and returning it to the address provided.
