Following the success its the inaugural tournament last year, Bath Building Society's Veteran's Tennis Team Cup took place last weekend despite strong winds and heavy rain.
Veterans aged 50 or over from in and around Bath braved some tricky conditions at the Lansdown Tennis Club as they battled it out for the grand trophy. Six teams took part in the competition which is now an annual event in the Bath tennis calendar.
The eventual winners, after a hard fought and very congenial event, were the Chippenham All-Stars, captained by Mike Powell, who defeated Lansdown in the final.
Colin Selby from Lansdown Tennis Club which hosted the event said, "The second annual competition went ahead over the weekend, in spite of the wettest playing conditions on Saturday imaginable. The afternoon players had continuous driving rain and very strong wind, but remained stoic throughout."
The trophy was presented by the Club's President, David Franklin, who commented on the player's bravery in the face of the Saturday weather, and who told the teams that next year's event would be played on newly laid and refurbished court surfaces, work which will be done in the spring.
