An Early Christman Present for Bath Hospital Radio

A newly formed partnership is making airwaves across the city as Bath Building Society announce their sponsorship of local radio station Bath Hospital Radio.
The Society have an active and varied programme of community involvement throughout Bath, including their annual Charity Award scheme and their sponsorship of Bath Round Table's fireworks display, and have now decided to add their support to Bath Hospital Radio.
The charity, based in the grounds of the Royal United Hospital, brings entertainment to thousands of patients every week at both the Royal United Hospital and the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases. Run entirely by volunteers, the station was formed in 1964, and since then has become an important institution in the city, and not just for those patients needing some light relief during their time in hospital. Many young people from the area are able to gain valuable experience in the operation of a fully equipped radio station through volunteering.
With up to date digital facilities, Bath Hospital Radio has shrugged off the stereotype image of hospital broadcasting. The station broadcasts live from the Rec during Bath Rugby home matches and plays nostalgic and contemporary music on request for patients and their relatives. It will soon be launching an online streaming facility for friends and relatives who wish to share the request dedication from their homes at the time of broadcast.

An Early Christmas Present for Bath Hospital Radio

Bath Building Society has provided funding for the station to cover all running costs throughout 2009.
Ray James, Chair of Bath Hospital Radio said, "The station has always moved with the times, and we're pleased that we can continue to do the same thanks to Bath Building Society."

"I think people sometimes have the impression that hospital radio is only run by a few retired volunteers, but we have people from 16 years old to people who are retired who regularly give their time to help the station broadcast."
"Throughout the history of the radio station, one thing has remained at it's heart. That is the aim to provide a special service, playing favourite music and messages from family and friends."

Chief Executive of Bath Building Society, Dick Jenkins, said, "We always aim to support the local community in as many ways as possible, and Bath Hospital Radio provides an important service for thousands of people from in and around Bath every year."

"Having visited the facilities and seen the team at work, we were impressed by the quality of the programming and the professionalism of the broadcasts. This is an excellent service to people who are in need of some comfort and cheer at a difficult point in their lives, and Bath is lucky to have such a service for its patients."

"There are exciting times ahead for Bath Hospital Radio, with the introduction of their online service and plans for more outside broadcasts. The station is well supported by volunteers from Bath, and we're really pleased to be able to add our support to such a worthy cause."
