Deadline approaching for annual Fireworks Poster Competition
Over recent weeks, children across Bath and North East Somerset have been sketching screamers and painting pyrotechnics for their entries into the Bath Round Table annual Fireworks Poster Competition.

The deadline for entries is now looming, and budding young artists only have until 5pm on Friday 10th October to return their designs. Entry forms can be picked up from any branch of Bath Building Society, the offices of the Bath Chronicle on James Street West, or the Bath FM office in Station Road.

The competition, sponsored by Bath Building Society, is a yearly tradition in the city and every autumn children are encouraged to express their artistic skills on paper, with the hope of their entry being chosen to promote next year’s display on posters around Bath.
In the competition, children are asked to design a poster highlighting Guy Fawkes’ night and the safety issues associated with it.

Last year’s competition saw over 3,000 entries, and Bath Round Table and Bath Building Society are hoping for another great response this year.

2007 winner Reuben George has already had his design made into a poster to promote this year’s firework display, which is set to take place on Wednesday 5th November at the Rec. His brightly coloured entry caught the eye of the judges.

The standard of entries has been high in recent years, and as an added incentive all entrants to the competition will receive a free ticket to this year’s display, courtesy of the Society.

The posters will be judged in four age categories: 4-5; 6-7; 8-9; and over 10’s. There will be a separate category for children attending special schools in the area, as well as a prize for the overall winner. Judges will be looking at the safety message and artistic content of the posters. There will be winners in each age category, with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in each. Winners will receive a Bath Building Society ‘Saversaurus’ token worth £25, £15 or £10 respectively. The overall winner will receive a token for £25.

The winning entries will be decided by a panel of judges, including representatives from Bath Building Society, Bath Round Table, Bath FM, Bath Chronicle and Bath Society of Artists. Mayor of Bath councillor Tim Ball will also be helping to judge the competition.
This year’s winners will be invited along to receive their prizes at a special ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour at the Guildhall in Bath.

David Hill from Bath Round Table commented, “Last year we had a fantastic response to the competition from children throughout the B&NES area. I think people really embrace the spirit of the competition, and we couldn’t do it without the support of the local schools, Bath Building Society, and of course the children who produce such wonderful artwork.”

“The fireworks display last year was one of our best ever, and we’re hoping again for plenty of support from the local community.”
Kevin Gray, Deputy Chief Executive of Bath Building Society added, “The poster competition always gets a great response from children in and around Bath. It’s great to see so much talent from our young people, and we’re very much looking forward to the judging later this month.”
