Impressive response to fireworks poster competition
Budding young artists put their talents to good use recently, taking part in the city’s annual fireworks safety poster competition run by Bath Round Table and sponsored by Bath Building Society, with support from media partners Bath FM and the Bath Chronicle.

The competition, now in its 30th year, was a huge success, with thousands of entries from chi ldren between the ages of four and 16. The judging took place at the offices of the Bath Chronicle, with the Mayor of Bath cllr Sharon Ball, Bath Chronicle editor Sam Holliday, Round Table Chairman David Hill and representatives from Bath Building Society, Eventy Marketing and PR, and the Bath Society of Artists on the panel.

Although the judges faced some very difficult decisions, winners were selected for all age groups with prizes courtesy of Bath Building Society being handed over at a special presentation ceremony at the Mayor’s Parlour on 1st November. The Bath Society of Artists also awarded an individual prize. The overall winner was Reuben George, age 4, whose entry will be used to publicise next year’s Bath Round Table Firework Display.

Chair of Bath Round Table, David Hill, was pleased to have had such a good response from young artists in and around Bath. He commented, "The competition has always been very popular, and we were pleased to have such a high volume of entries again this year.

I would like to say thank you to all of the judges, and Bath Building Society, Bath FM and the Bath Chronicle for their support, but most importantly all of the children who took the time and effort to create such brilliant pieces of artwork. We had a difficult time this year picking the winners."

Mayor of Bath, Councillor Sharon Ball, said, "I really enjoyed judging the entries. We obviously have many budding artists in Bath.  I had five children and now have five grandchildren so I know how important it is to get this safety message across."

Nikki Fletcher from Bath Building Society who helped to judge the competition added, "Bath Building Society is proud to support the Round Table’s Fireworks Poster Competition which does a great job of encouraging the young people in the city to use their creative skills. It was obvious from the judging that there is a lot of talent and enthusiasm amongst our young people. The competition also carries a serious and important message of firework safety, which was evident on many of the posters."
