Naval Engineers Brainy Success
It was a hot contest, in every sense of the word as 18 companies from across the area battled it out for the coveted title of Brain of Bath 2009, sponsored by Bath Building Society.

On a sweltering evening in the city's elegant Assembly Rooms the teams were taking part in the annual quiz event in support of homeless charity, Julian House.

By the time the last of the 2160 quiz questions had been marked Bath based naval design company BMT Defence Services had just edged into the lead with the narrowest of margins.  They were closely followed by online retailer House of Bath.

Organiser of the popular event, Cecil Weir, was delighted with the success of the evening, "Things are tough in the economy at the moment and the fact that so many firms turned out was fantastic.

It is a wholly charitable event which makes a significant contribution towards Julian House's work.  Charities like Julian House need company's support
even more at difficult times like this.  It doesn't always have to be money.  Quite often 'in kind' support can be just as valuable."

"BMT Defence Services were worthy winners.  Not only did they get the points but they have also been tremendously loyal to the event; as have many of the teams who attended.  In addition to the participants we were also indebted to our main sponsor, Bath Building Society - again a very loyal supporter."

Bath and England rugby hero Phil de Glanville was the quizmaster for the evening - ensuring fair play and helping to make sure that devious delaying tactics weren't attempted to give teams more time to answer the questions.

Amongst the brain teasers which were delivered were the proper name for a fear of heights (acrophobia, not vertigo as commonly thought) and a nose testing smells round which gave a fragrant bouquet to the atmosphere.
