Bath Building Society and Rotary Join Together to Light Up Bath

Bath city centre's fireworks display will go ahead this year after its future was in doubt due to lack of volunteer support.

Taking over from Bath Round Table, The Rotary Club of Bath will take on the responsibility of organising the event, with the help of 41 Club. Held at the Rec, the fireworks event is attended by people of all ages and attracts around 8000 people each year.

Known for being closer to their customers, Bath Building Society has again pledged their full support to this year's show. They have also agreed to increase their sponsorship to cover the increase in the cost of the fireworks imported from China, due to the impact of the weakened
pound.

Each year the fireworks display and the sponsorship has contributed thousands of pounds raised for community groups and charities in and around Bath.

The Rotary Club of Bath will also take over the running of this year's Fireworks Poster Competition, again with support from Bath Building Society. The competition, used to highlight the safety issues surrounding bonfire night to children in and around Bath, is extremely popular, attracting thousands of entries each year.

Children are being asked to design a fireworks safety poster, with the winning design being used to promote the event in 2010. Last year's winner was Beth Smith from Threeways School, whose design will appear on the posters ready to promote this year's display.

Mike Knight, President of The Rotary Club of Bath said, "We are pleased to be able to step in at this time in order to allow the annual city centre firework display to go ahead. The event is very popular, and thousands of people turn out each bonfire night to see what is one of the best and safest displays around."

"We're also looking forward to co-ordinating the poster competition this year. I would like to thank the event's long-standing sponsors, Bath Building Society, for their continued support which allows us to put together a fantastic evening of fireworks for the people of Bath."

Chief Executive of Bath Building Society Dick Jenkins added, "It has been a real pleasure to support this event over the years, and I'm sure that Rotary will do an excellent job. Events like this bring together the whole community, people of all ages and backgrounds, and we're delighted to be a part of that."
