Street Pastors Are Batter Than The Rest

A celebration of Shrove Tuesday ended in a gripping finale today as local businesses dashed for the finishing line hoping to win first place in Bath's Flippin' Pancake Race.

The event, sponsored by Bath Building Society, was held in the heart of Bath on Union St and saw teams from all over the city competing for the coveted frying pan trophy.

Teams including GWR, Mowbray Woodwards, Mediaclash and The Podium, competed to be Bath's top flippers.  Four heats saw the teams battle it out for a place in the final race which saw The Street Pastors flippin' their way across the finishing line to victory.

Juice Recruitment came a close second whilst Mogers took third place.  With 15 teams in total, the £20 entry fees were donated to local charity Julian House raising £300, which was boosted through a street collection.

The race day saw a number of familiar faces joining in with the fun. Town Crier, Sean Price, opened proceedings and The Mayor of Bath, Tim Ball, also joined in on the action by starting one of the heats.

Bath Building Society, well known for its support of local causes was also on hand to enter a team.

Dick Jenkins, Chief Executive of Bath Building Society commented, "It was great to see so many people entering into the spirit of the event both as competitors and spectators. Given all of the gloomy economic news we read about these days it was nice as a financial institution to do something which was both fun and raised money for people in real need."

Bath's Flippin' Pancake race 2009 was organised by South West based firm Eventy - Marketing & PR.  Managing Director of Eventy, Helen Plummer commented on the event saying, "Following on from the success of the Egg and Spoon Race that we organised in Queen Square last year, we wanted to do something similar and fun whilst bringing local businesses together and raising funds for a local cause."

Helen continued, "Bath's Flippin' Pancake Race 2009 was a great success and we are already thinking about how to make 2010 even bigger and better!  We would like to thank our sponsors Bath Building Society, media partners GWR and the Bath Chronicle, and Future Bath Plus for all of their support".
