Young Artists Dazzle Judges in Poster Competition

A dazzling array of designs was put before the judges of the annual Bath Building Society fireworks safety poster competition last week.

Children from across Bath are encouraged to take part in the competition, which is sponsored by Bath Building Society, to promote the message of safety on Guy Fawkes night. Once again the competition proved popular with many schools and individuals taking part.

The Mayor of Bath councillor Tim Ball and editor of the Bath Chronicle Sam Holliday, joined with representatives from Bath Building Society, Bath Round Table, Bath Society of Artists, Bath Fire Service and Eventy - Marketing & PR, to assess thousands of designs from children across the city.

The standard this year was high as ever, with artistic flare and individual creativity evident in many of the colourful designs. The judges once again faced a long and difficult task of deciding winners for each category, as well as an overall winner whose design will be used to promote the Bath Round Table fireworks display next year. Winners in each category will also be awarded special 'Saversaurus' vouchers courtesy of Bath Building Society.

This year's overall winner was Beth Smith from Threeways School, whose eye-catching design and safety message was picked by the judges.

Speaking on behalf of sponsors Bath Building Society, Jonathan Cook said, "This is the first time I have been a judge in this competition, and I was really pleased to see how much effort the children had put in.

There were some fantastic pieces of artwork and some important safety messages, and it's great to be recognising the talent of our young artists. I would like to congratulate Beth for her brilliant entry, and we're looking forward to seeing it on the posters next year."

David Hill from Bath Round Table added, "Our thanks go once again to Bath Building Society for sponsoring the competition, and obviously to the thousands of children who have put so much effort into creating such impressive designs. The competition is well known in and around Bath, and I'm sure it will continue to be a local tradition for many years to come."

The winners of each category are as follows; Ages 4-5, 1st Jemima D'arcy, 2nd Grace Reynolds-Buckton, 3rd Faith Hallett. Ages 6-7, 1st Isabelle Jones, 2nd Colby Thorne, 3rd Anya Baker. Special Prizes (no age category), 1st Beth Smith, 2nd Jameson Derrick, 3rd Macaulay Clarke. The Bath Society of Artists prize went to Kayleigh-Ann Hardy.
