Supporting the amazing work of Bath Charity 3SG and the Compassionate Community Hub

This year the Bath Building Society charitable fund has supported local charities that are working with the most vulnerable people in our community during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and lockdown period.  One of those, Banes 3rd Sector Group (3SG), has worked around the clock to set up the Compassionate Community Hub reaching out to the vulnerable and isolated in the Bath area, providing help with food deliveries, medicine, urgent housing, mental health and wellbeing and money matters. Five months later we look at the amazing impact the Compassionate Community team have made:

  • Handled over 6000 calls from people across Bath and North East Somerset.
  • Recruited and managed 2,500 volunteers.
  • Over 1,400 tasks have been completed supporting the most vulnerable, examples include food shopping, collection of medicines and befriending calls.
  • 90% of volunteers are carrying out repeat services for people they have established a relationship with, so people can continue to access support from a trusted neighbour and a safe and secure payment process.

James Carlin, Director of 3SG, said: “When lockdown was imposed I could see that isolated people in our community needed help, but it was important that support was provided in a safe and efficient way. We set up an Emergency Volunteer Response service which matched a volunteer with someone who needed help in their immediate area. We made sure this service was integrated with Banes Council, Virgin Care and other local charities via the Compassionate Community Hub to ensure people in need could access support on a range of issues. To date we have helped 1,419 people right across Bath and North East Somerset and thanks to support from Bath Building Society and local funders we have been able to employ a Coordinator to support the core team with the local response effort”.
