Working with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau to support debt clients

In early 2020 we launched a partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau in Bath, to help support the rising number of local people turning to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau for help with managing their finances.

The partnership was created through a mutual desire to provide financial education support to the increasing number that turn to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau for help with debt management each year. Little did we know at that time the impact coronavirus would have – and continues to have – on our lives. And in the first three months of 2021, our local Citizens Advice Bureau recorded a 19% increase in debt clients compared to the same period in 2020.

Financial support from Bath Building Society helped our local Citizen’s Advice Bureau recruit a supervisor to help volunteer advisers meet this increased demand for help from clients. Throughout lockdown, the team also worked tirelessly to create online access channels when we were unable to meet face-to-face and many residents now prefer online communication which will remain available as live appointments open up again.

Thanks to Bath Building Society funding, clients now have access to a debt support team to help with any financial related issues they might be facing including help with benefits, employment or housing issues and when necessary involving the support of a debt specialist.

We’re proud to be in the Top 52 Club, a group of businesses and organisations dedicated to improving our community in Bath and North East Somerset by supporting the great work of the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
